With soaring gas prices, everyone is looking for a way to improve gas mileage to save money. From driving tips to fuel conversion kits, there are many ways to stretch those dollars by finding ways to conserve fuel. It is amazing some of the technology that exists to help drivers save on fuel costs.

Two of the most interesting devices are fuel conversion kits that let your car run on something other than gasoline or diesel. The first one is called the Greasecar conversion system. This converts a diesel engine care or truck in order to run on filtered vegetable oils. The manufacturing has tips on how it should work stressing that the temperature of engine operation plays a big part in proper combustion of fuel than the temperature of the fuel itself. They recommend the conversion kit for those who do a lot longer distance driving rather short trips. Since the diesel will be used to start and stop the engine and the engine and vegetable oil need to be warmed before it can be used, shorter trips will have you turning the engine off before it has even warmed up enough to make the conversion kit of any use.

Improve Gas Mileage

If you use this kit it is important to keep up the recommended pre-filtering of the vegetable oil for best results. Once you have become used to what to do to keep the system filtered, it should take less than an hour per week of you time to complete it.

Improve Gas Mileage

Another type of conversion kit uses water to help in the combustion of gasoline, which reduces your use of gasoline. A water fuel conversion kit works by sending through electrolysis using the cars battery. This creates Hydroxy gas (HHO) that is mixed in your engine together with the gasoline and air to create a 3 times more powerful mix than gasoline fuel alone. This means you have more power produced by your cars with less gasoline burned. Some reports show that a car could cover 100 miles on 4 ounces of water and HALF of the gasoline normally consumed for that distance! Who wouldnt like to spend half of what we are having to spend on gasoline? Different manufacturers give ranges of 40%-65% savings on fuel. You dont have to modify anything on your car, so adding the fuel conversion kit will not void your warranty. You can also easily uninstall the kit to move it to another car if you need to. Imagine the reduction in greenhouses gases that you are also saving.

If you are too wary of adding conversion kits, there are other choices for you as well. You can replace your computer chip with a performance chip that offers more power with better efficiency. Generally, these cost the same or more than the conversion kits and dont offer huge savings in fuel costs since they are aimed more at increasing power.

A cheap way of making sure your car is performing at its best to improve gas mileage is to make sure that you have replaced air filters and spark plugs regularly. By keeping the car tuned up to its best condition, you will ensure that it mixes the fuel and uses it most efficiently.

Gas Mileage Comparison

With current concerns about gas prices, we are all trying to compare vehicles to find the best deals in long term maintenance of fuel economy. Anyone can compare two or more vehicles side by side with a gas mileage comparison chart. Using that feature one can find that the Ford Focus and Toyota Camry are both good auto choices, but the Ford Focus does have more advantages.

The new EPA mpg on the two cars has the Ford at a combined 28mpg and the Toyota at 25mpg. However, when the average was taken on 6 Fords and 5 Toyotas, drivers reported and average of 32.7mpg for the Ford and 25.2mpg for the Toyota. That would be a significant difference for someone who does a great deal of driving.

Gas Mileage Comparison

The basic economics of fuel use is also broken down in the chart used in the side by side comparison. The Ford gets 340 miles on its 13.5 gallon tank while the Toyota gets 416 miles on its larger 18.5 gallon tank. Over the course of a year, the Toyota would cost an average of $220 more in fuel than the Ford Focus. That is based on driving a little over half of the time in the city and little less than half on the highway. If you do most of your driving on the highway, the mpg of both vehicles would be better and the savings would vary somewhat.

Another concern to watch is the impact that the car has on the environment through its emissions. This impact is called the carbon footprint on www.fueleconomy.gov. The Ford Focus has a rating of 6.6 with 3.5 being the best rating available. The Toyota Camry has a rating of 7.3 as its carbon footprint.

Of course the size of the two cars plays a major role in all of these factors. The Ford Focus is considered a compact car with only a 2 liter engine while the Toyota Camry is a mid-sized car with a 2.4 liter engine. A bigger engine offers more power but in turn uses more fuel and creates more emission. Given the extra space that a family might need, the small differences in the cost to operate the Toyota Camry might be worth it.

Other available options are vehicles that are hybrids, meaning they use electricity part of the time and gasoline part of the time. Finding an affordable vehicle with decent gas mileage is a must for most of us now days, but using a gas mileage comparison chart can take out the guessing and the leg work involved when shopping for a new car. Do your homework before leaving the house so that you dont get trapped by the looks or other conveniences offered instead of focusing on the long term impact that the gas mileage might have on you finances.
